Follow up appointment
Two days AFTER Christmas we had an appointment with the orthopedist to take the cast off. Doesn't she look so excited to get that stupid thing off?
And we came home with another cast. The leg is healing well, but needs another few weeks in a cast to stabilize the bone and make sure it is fully healed. They gave us a walking shoe to make it easier to walk and not slide all over the place. She wasn't too happy about being put back in the cast, but she'll live.
Give me some lovin'
The baby has really been enjoying her big sister out of commission. Now they can lounge on the couch and watch movies instead of yelling and screaming over toys. Before breaking her leg, Kira couldn't sit still long enough to even care about the T.V. Now it's her best form of entertainment. We've been playing the same 6 episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba on repeat since that's the only show she'll tolerate.
YOOOOOOOOOO Gabba Gabba!!!!!!!!

Getting the cast
| Can I just say that I HATE when you can't see a pediatric specialist for something like, oh I don't know, broken legs!?!? Because of insurance Kira had to go to a contracted orthopedist who happened to specialize in EVERYTHING. We had to sit in the waiting room for THREE blasted hours. THREE HOURS!!!!! I was furious!!! Never mind I had my 8 month old baby with me or that my 2 1/2 year old has a severe broken leg. Let's just keep them waiting a little while longer. I really wanted to gouge someone's eyeballs out I was so angry. Not just frustrated. ANGRY! She's such a trooper. Despite the pain, she's smiling again. |

Our first broken bone
We made it 7 years with children before someone broke a bone. And poor little Kira was the victim. She has always been easily "fixed" whenever she gets a booboo with a quick kiss and hug. When she couldn't stop crying and wouldn't try to walk or let us touch her leg, we knew something was wrong. While we dashed off to urgent care at 7:00 on a Sunday night, the rest of the Jacklin clan were taking bets on the extent of the injury. They ranged from nothing at all to a hair-line fracture. Nobody guessed that it was a clean break ALL.THE.WAY.THROUGH.

The story behind the break:
All the cousins were playing on the beds at Grandma & Grandpa's house. The big kids were jumping from one bed to the other while Kira was turning the light off and on. An older brother (who shall remain nameless) wanted Kira to stop playing with the light so he gave her a little shove which caused her to loose her footing. Her leg slipped between the wall and the bed and the angle at which she tried to free her leg is what caused it to break.
She was in so much pain that I had to sleep on the floor with her. Just when she would relax enough to get some rest, she'd roll over or bump her leg and wake up screaming. It was horrible. Especially since no amount of Tylenol or Ibuprofen could take the edge off her pain. We had to wait 3 days before we could see the orthopedist.
Fun times...said no parent EVER!
